Congress MLAs demanded KS Eshwarappa’s resignation, put up bed in the Karnataka assembly.
Congress MLAs in the Karnataka Assembly protested till late Thursday and demanded the resignation of Minister of State KS Eshwarappa over the saffron flag remarks.
Congress MLAs demanding the sacking of Karnataka Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister KS Eshwarappa and registering a case of sedition on him will spend the night in the assembly itself.
For this, the MLAs also put their beds on the floor of the assembly and lay down. Today is the second day of the Congress protest.
The members of the Congress party remained frozen in the house itself. Their uproar and protests continued.
Meanwhile, Assembly Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri and former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa met Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah in the assembly premises.
Recently, Eshwarappa had claimed that only the saffron flag could become the national flag in the future.
The assembly was adjourned for the whole day on Thursday due to the uproar by the MLAs of the opposition party.
Congress MLAs stayed in the house. The proceedings of both the houses were stalled for the second day due to the uproar by the MLAs.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Assembly Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, and former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa later held talks with Siddaramaiah in assembly premises but to no avail.
Siddaramaiah is the leader of Opposition and CLP chief in the Karnataka assembly.
Yediyurappa said, “We tried to convince the leaders of the opposition party for about two hours. We told them not to sleep here in the assembly, but they has already taken a decision.
The speaker also tried to convince them. We tried our best, but they did not listen. We will try to persuade them tomorrow also.
Hearing on hijab controversy will be held again in Karnataka High Court today.
The hijab protests in Karnataka began in January. In fact, some girl students of Government Girls PU College in Udupi district alleged that they were barred from attending classes.
During the protest, some students claimed that they were denied entry to the college for wearing the hijab.
After this incident, students of various colleges reached Shanteshwar Education Trust in Vijayapura wearing a saffron stole.
