Amritsar’s Dussehra celebrations
On October 2, 2025, Amritsar’s Dussehra celebrations at the Dussehra Ground took on a poignant and powerful tone as Major General Kartik Seshadri, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 15th Infantry Division, delivered a stirring address. Drawing a parallel between the mythological demon king Ravana and Pakistan, he remarked, “Just as India destroyed Pakistan through Operation Sindoor, Ravana was also destroyed today.”
Major General Seshadri’s statement resonated deeply with the audience, linking the triumph of good over evil in the Ramayana to India’s decisive military actions. He highlighted the nation’s strong response to the Pulwama attack, emphasizing that Pakistan-backed terrorists had killed innocent people, and India had responded strongly.

The Dussehra event, organized by the Shri Durgayana Tirtha Committee, featured the traditional burning of effigies of Ravana, Meghnath, and Kumbhakaran. Prof. Chawla emphasized the importance of embodying the virtues of Lord Ram in daily life, advocating for truth, righteousness, and service. She also called upon religious leaders to ensure that individuals who misuse women or engage in derogatory language against women should not be allowed into spiritual spaces.
The event was marked by vibrant cultural performances, with children and youth enacting various episodes from the Ramayana. The crowd was captivated as characters portraying Ram, Lakshman, Sita, Hanuman, and Ravana brought the epic to life on stage. The atmosphere was electric, culminating in a resounding cheer of “Jai Shri Ram” as Lord Ram’s effigy was set aflame.
