ED Attached Rs 2.7 Crore Assets Of BJP Leader In Surat

ED attached Rs 2.7 crore assets of BJP leader in Surat. The ED has attached assets worth Rs 2.7 crore to a Surat-based BJP leader and a media company related to him in a money laundering case.

The agency said a preliminary order for attachment of assets has been issued against PVS Sarma, his wife Annapurna Sarma, son P Sushant Sarma and Sanket Media Pvt Ltd under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

PVS Sarma is the director of a media company. All the immovable properties attached are located in Heera city.

These include seven shops in the Savera complex, two flats in the Nova complex, a shop and a plot in the Western Business Park and Karunasagar area, land and a building in the Palsana area.

Along with this, 24 lakh rupees that have been kept in fixed deposits are also attached.

The central agency said in a statement that the property is worth Rs 2.7 crore, while its market value is around Rs eight crore.

Sarma was removed as the vice-president of Surat BJP after being raided by the Income Tax Department in October last year for alleged tax evasion. He has previously worked in the Income Tax Department.

The ED arrested Sarma in November last year. The ED registered a case against Sarma, the media company (Sanket), and others after an FIR lodged by the Income Tax Department with the Gujarat Police.

Supreme Court asked AIFF, why not conducting elections

The hearing was adjourned for a week following the solicitation of Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta appearing for the Union Sports Ministry on Monday on the extension of tenure of All India Football Federation (AIFF) office-bearers.

However, a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of India Sharad Bobde comprising Justices AS Bopanna and Justice V Ramasubramanian asked in his opening remarks before adjourning the hearing why AIFF was not holding the election.

Chief Justice Bobde’s initial remarks were a clear indication that the Bench had agreed to settle the case.

Given the urgency of the case, the bench initially wanted to postpone the hearing till Tuesday, but Mehta surprised everyone when he sought a postponement for a week.
