Four Day Long Malabar Exercise Is Strategically Important

Four day long Malabar exercise is strategically important, important messages are hidden for China.

The navies of the Quad countries are demonstrating their prowess off the coast of Guam in the western Pacific Ocean. The four-day-long Malabar exercise is strategically very important.

It started in 1992 as a bilateral exercise between the navies of the US and India. This was followed by maneuvers in 1995 and 1996.

After the nuclear test in Pokhran, this process was stopped till 2002. This exercise has been held every year since 2002.

Japan and Australia also participated in the exercise in 2007. Japan has been a part of it continuously since 2014.

The exercise was held in two parts last year: In 2020 this exercise was completed in two phases.

The exercise was conducted in the first phase off the coast of Visakhapatnam and in the second phase in the Arabian Sea. occurred off the coast of Japan in 2019 and in the Philippines in 2018.

Amazing harmony is seen: Amazing harmony is seen between the navies in the Malabar exercise. In this, the navies demonstrate their capability in the indicative conditions of war.

The dual-carrier operation was carried out last year. The joint operation was carried out by the Indian Navy’s Vikramaditya Carrier Battle Group and the US’s Nimitz Carrier Strike Group.

During this, the air defense of MiG-29K was demonstrated from cross deck flying operations.

With the joining of Japan, the initiative went from bilateral to multilateral: Japan joined this exercise as a permanent member in 2015, and with this, it became a trilateral exercise.

Last year proved to be a milestone in this matter. This year all the four quad countries have joined it. Australia became a part of this exercise for the second time.

India, the USA, Japan, Australia, and Singapore participated in 2007. This led to a change of government in Australia the following year and it did away with the practice.

Important messages are hidden for China: This joint exercise is important in view of the way China has maintained a standoff situation with India in Ladakh for almost one and a half years.

China’s attitude toward the countries concerned has been the reason for Australia’s return to this exercise.

This joint military exercise has major implications in terms of countering China’s aggressive attitude in the region.

India is associated with more joint military exercises: India also conducts other military exercises with these countries.

Last year, the Indian Navy conducted Passage Exercise (PASEX) with Japan, the US, and Australia. Such exercises are conducted for ease of operation and movement between the navies.

Apart from this, the Indian Navy also conducts exercises with other friendly countries. Joint exercises were conducted with necessary precautions even during the Corona period.
