Francis Tiafoe Reached The Semi-finals Of The US Open

Francis Tiafoe reached the semi-finals of the US Open, the name entered the pages of history.

Frances Tiafoe defeated better-ranked Andrey Rublev in straight sets here on Wednesday to become the first player from the host nation since Andy Roddick in 2006 to reach the men’s singles semifinals of the US Open tennis tournament.

22nd seed Tiafoe registered the biggest win of his career by defeating 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal in the fourth round.

He achieved another feat by defeating ninth seed Rublev 7-6 (3), 7-6 (0), 6 beats -4.

Twenty-four-year-old Tiafo said, “I like to show the world what I can do. I just want to get on the court and give the spectators what they want and that’s what is winning me.”

Roddick, who was present at the Arthur Ashe Stadium on Wednesday, lost to Roger Federer in the title match 16 years ago.

He was the last American male player to reach the semi-finals in New York. Roddick is also the last male player in the country to win any Grand Slam singles championship with a title win at the 2003 US Open.

This time there is no player left in the men’s singles tournament who has won a major title.

In the semi-finals, Tiafoe will face the winner of Friday’s match between third seed Carlos Alcarez and 11th seed Yannick Sinar.

Francis Tiafoe reached the semi-finals: Tiafoe played aggressive tennis on Wednesday and did not lose his serve even once.

Apart from a brilliant volley against Rublev, he also hit 18 aces. This is the sixth defeat in six matches for Rublev of Russia in the Grand Slam quarter-finals.

Tiafoe won 31 out of 41 points on the net while Rublev came to the net only 11 times.

In the women’s quarterfinals on Wednesday, world number one Inga Swiatec defeated American number eight Jessica Pegula 6-3, 7-6. This is his eighth consecutive win against players in the top 10.

Sviatec will take on number six Arena Sabalenka in the semi-finals, who won 6-1, 7-6 over Karolina Pliskova.

Swiatec is a two-time champion at the French Open but had never advanced past the fourth round in New York before this year. “I didn’t expect it at the start of the tournament,” said Swiatec.
