Gyanendra Pratap Singh, who opened a front against Jihadis, will be the next DGP of Assam.

Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Gyanendra Pratap Singh will be Assam’s next Chief of Police (DGP). Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made this announcement on Saturday.

Gyanendra Pratap Singh, currently a Special DGP in the state police force will take over from Bhaskar Jyoti Mahant.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma mentioned Gyanendra Pratap Singh as the next DGP during a speech at a government function.

Later, when asked by reporters about the new appointment, he said, “It’s routine.” “The Home Ministry made the announcement on Friday, despite the official order not being shared with the media.”

Assam: since 1991 Gyanendra Pratap Singh has been an IPS officer.

Expressing gratitude for the appointment, Singh said he will continue to do his best for the state.

He added: “We will continue to work to maintain the momentum we have gained over the past few years, especially over the past year and a half under the leadership of the current CM.

On Twitter, a senior IPS official wrote: “With Maa Kamakhya’s blessing, I look forward to the opportunity to serve the people of Assam.”

“Thank you Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam for reposing faith in me to lead the proud Assam Police.”

Singh, a 1991-batch Assam-Meghalaya cadre officer, had returned to Assam as Additional DGP (Law and Order) in December 2019 when anti-CAA protests were at their peak in the state.

He was the IGP of NIA in New Delhi before being sent back to the state. He was also part of the Special Protection Group (SPG) earlier.

Assam Madrasa: Muslim leaders supporting state government and police to reform private madrasas in Assam: DGP.

The state government and the police are working together to reform madrassas in Assam. Director General of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahant gave this information on Saturday.

Earlier, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had expressed his desire to reduce the number of madrassas.

He had said that we want to provide general education in madrassas and want to start a registration system in madrassas.

Madrassas will run under the rules.

The DGP told in an interview with the news agency that we are bringing reforms in the private madrasas of the state.

These madrassas will be run under the rules. For this, the leaders of the Muslim community have also given their support to the government and the police.
