Heavy rain continues to wreak havoc in Tamil Nadu. Due to this, the Meteorological Department had issued a red alert in many districts of the state for Thursday.
Here the situation has become very bad. 90 major reservoirs and lakes of the state have been flooded due to the rains.
According to the news agency, the water level of Vaigai Dam has reached 69 feet, in view of which a warning has been issued. The full reservoir capacity of Vaigai Dam is 71 feet.
The situation has worsened due to heavy rains in the state. So far 16 people have lost their lives here. The bad weather conditions in the sea have worsened the condition of the coastal areas.
Roads have also been flooded in low-lying parts of the coastal areas, including the capital Chennai, and boats are plying here.
Rail and air traffic have also been badly affected due to the rain. Dozens of people have been injured and a large number of livestock have been lost due to the natural calamity.
According to the Central Water Commission, the Kallar river at Poyyapakkam in Ranipet district and the Arniyar river at Puduvayal in Tiruvallur district were flowing above the ‘highest flood’ level.
Meanwhile, stagnant water is being removed at T-Nagar in Chennai following incessant rains in the region as a result of cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal.

Chief Minister MK Stalin has discussed the situation with ministers and higher officials. Crops have also suffered a lot due to floods and rains.
The CM has instructed the officials to save the crops of the farmers from the situation of flood and rain. He has constituted a team of six ministers to take stock of the damage caused to the farmers.
Kannur-Yesvantpur Express derails after boulder collapses near Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu.
Seven coaches of the 07390 Kannur-Yesvantpur Express train derailed between Toppuru-Sivadi Ghat section in Tamil Nadu’s Dharmapuri district on Friday, South Western Railway (SWR) said.
The accident happened due to the fall of a boulder. Almost all 2,350 passengers aboard the train narrowly escaped the accident.
Seven coaches B1, B2 (3rd AC), S6, S7, S8, S9, S10 (Sleeper) derailed around 3.50 am on Friday.
