IMF Appoints Krishna Srinivasan As Director Of APD

IMF appoints Indian economist Krishna Srinivasan as director of APD, who will take over command on June 22.

International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georjeeva on Wednesday appointed Indian economist Krishna Srinivasan as the new director of the Department of Asia and the Pacific (APD).

He will take over on June 22. According to the IMF announcement, Srinivasan will replace Changyang Ri.

Kristalina praised Srinivasan saying that he is a highly respected member of the IMF family. He has made significant and innovative contributions to the mission of the IMF during his career.

Srinivasan, an Indian national, has a long experience of 27 years in the IMF. He started his career in 1994 through the economic program.

He is currently Deputy Director in the Department of Asia and the Pacific at the International Monetary Fund.

Georgieva said Srinivasan’s appointment was made on the basis of his global record and leadership ability.

He has held the portfolio of African, European, Currency, and Capital Markets, as well as the Department of Policy and Review and the Western Hemisphere Department.

Georgieva described Srinivasan as a strategic thinker, innovator, and public manager.

Srinivasan holds a Ph.D. (Hons) in Economics from Indiana University. He has done his Masters from Delhi School of Economics and Bachelor’s of Economics (Hons) from Delhi University.

He has also been an assistant professor of international finance and economics at Indiana-Padrew University.

Along with this, he has also been an advisor to the World Bank and Center for Policy Research in DC, and Planning Commission in New Delhi.

Many banks have increased their loan interest rates after India’s central bank RBI increased the repo rate.

In this sequence is HDFC, which has increased its Retail Prime Lending Rate (RPLR) on housing loans with effect from June 10, 2022.

On this, its Adjustable Rate Home Loan (ARHL) has been benchmarked by 50 basis points. That is, customers taking a home loan by HDFC will now have to pay more EMI.
