Karnataka Implemented The Anti-Cow Slaughter Ordinance

Karnataka implemented the anti-cow slaughter ordinance on Tuesday.

To stop cow slaughter, the Karnataka government implemented an ordinance, the Governor gives approval, strict punishment, and the provision of a fine.

Karnataka also implemented the anti-cow slaughter ordinance on Tuesday. It provides strict punishment for cow slaughter and protection for those who save them.

The state cabinet last week decided to issue Karnataka ‘Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Ordinance-2020’ which has now got the approval of the Governor.

Earlier some other states have also introduced similar laws.

The ordinance provides for a punishment of three to seven years for killing cows and a fine ranging from 50 thousand to five lakh rupees.

There is a provision of seven years’ punishment for committing another offense and a fine ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.

In this, ‘Cattle’ is defined as cows of all ages, cow calves, bulls, bulls, and male and female buffalo under 13 years of age. Whereas Beef is defined as the meat of Cattle in any form.

There will be no restriction on the consumption of buffalo meat.

The state government has already said that with the effect of this ordinance, there will be a complete ban on cow slaughter in the state.

However, slater houses will continue to operate in the state and there will be no ban on the consumption of buffalo meat as verification of the competent authority does not ban the killing of male and female buffalo older than 13 years.

The ordinance has allowed the slaughter of cows for the very sick, suffering from infectious diseases, or for the purpose of experimental and research.

Apart from this, no suit, prosecution, or legal proceeding can be held against the competent authority or any person exercising his powers under the ordinance.

The government had to adopt the ordinance in this regard because the ‘Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill’ was passed by the Legislative Council last month.

Amid strong opposition from the Congress, but it has not yet passed from the Legislative Council. The Legislative Council was adjourned indefinitely even before the bill was introduced in the House.

State Animal Husbandry Minister Prabhu Chauhan had also visited Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat along with his officials to gather information regarding the implementation of the law before introducing the bill in the Legislative Assembly.
