Law Minister Said, No Proposal To Make Voting Compulsory

Law Minister said, no proposal to make voting compulsory, no question should be raised about EVMs.

The central government said that there is no proposal to bring a law to make voting compulsory in the country. This information was given by Law Minister Kiren Rijiju.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Friday, the Law Minister said there is no plan to make voting certificates mandatory for availing government benefits.

His answer came in the context of more and more people voting.

The Law Minister was asked whether any such suggestion has been received from the state governments or other organizations, he replied in the negative.

Congress leader Manish Tewari asked questions about EVM source code.

Replying to a question by Congress member Manish Tewari during Zero Hour in the House.

The Minister said that no question should be raised about EVMs as the machines remain in the custody of the Election Commission after they are manufactured by the manufacturers.

Tiwari had asked a question about the EVM source code whether they are with the Election Commission or with the companies that make the machines.

JD(U) member Rajiv Ranjan Singh asked the Law Minister to give sensitive answers to sensitive questions during Zero Hour.

He said this regarding the reply of the Rijiju on the voting rights of prisoners.

Responding to a JD(U) member’s query, Rijiju said all citizens are equal in the eyes of the government and as a law minister, he cannot say that undertrials do not have the right to vote.

We cannot comment when the matter is sub-judice, he said. He said that even while in jail, people fight elections and win. He told the JDU member, what would you say on this.
