For a long time, the India-Myanmar border, about 400 km long, has remained a challenge for India’s security agencies.
The challenge is because the entire border is such that movement can be done from anywhere across. This quality was making Manipur a part of the golden triangle of the infamous drug supply in the world.
The difficulty of Manipur is that the political instability in neighboring countries and the open operation of the drug mafia at the international level have increased the menace of drugs in the state.
Organized drug mafia send narcotics like heroin, ganja, opium, synthetic drug crystals methamphetamine, pseudoephedrine, and WY tablets to other parts of India through Manipur.
The Ministry of Home Affairs of the Central Government has also admitted that the menace of drugs is increasing in the country and youth are becoming victims of it.
That is why the Home Ministry has also given top priority to the war against drugs.
Therefore, in the Far East, the Manipur government has declared an open war against drugs, which Chief Minister N Biren Singh has named War on Drugs 2.0.
CM Biren Singh has made it a part of the agenda of the first 100 days of his second term.
