Massacre Of Kashmiri Pandits: SC To Petitioner, go to Government. On the massacre of Kashmiri Pandits, the SC told the petitioner, to go to the Center first.

The Supreme Court has asked the petitioner NGO “We The Citizens” to give a representation to the Central Government on the petition filed on the incident of the massacre of Kashmiri Pandits in J&K.

The Supreme Court told the NGO that first, they should go to the government, give representation there, and withdraw their petition for the time being.

In the petition, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted to probe the incident that happened three decades ago, seeking rehabilitation and getting the property back.

A bench of Justices BR Gavai and CT Ravikumar heard the petition.

“We the citizens” had filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking the formation of an SIT to probe the genocide and atrocities of Kashmiri Pandits and Sikhs in Kashmir from 1990 to 2003.

The petition also sought the persecution of Hindus in Kashmir and the rehabilitation of the displaced.

The petition was filed by the NGO ‘We the Citizens’ through advocate Varun Kumar Sinha.

In this, the petitioner requested the Center and the J&K governments to direct the census of Hindus and Sikhs living in different parts of India after the massacre in the Union Territory in the 90s.

It said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) should be constituted and the perpetrators involved in and aiding and abetting the massacre of Hindus and Sikhs in J&K from 1989 to 2003 be identified.

On the basis of the report of the SIT, directions should be given to prosecuting the accused.

It also demanded a probe into the killings of Kashmiri Pandits killed in the Kashmir Valley in recent months.

Massacre Of Kashmiri Pandits: In 2017 the Supreme Court dismissed the petition.

The petition alleged that those who left Kashmir after 1990, leaving behind their immovable properties, are leading the life of refugees in other parts of India.

Those people should be identified and rehabilitated. Earlier in the year 2017, a review petition was filed in the Supreme Court seeking an inquiry into the killings of Kashmiri Pandits in 1989-90.

This was rejected by the court. The court had said in the order that it is difficult to collect evidence after 27 years of the massacre.

The new petition, filed in March, said that if an inquiry can be conducted into the 1984 riots (Sikh riots) after 33 years, the same is possible in this case as well.
