Tensions Escalate in Manipur: Locals in Manipur’s Imphal West staged a protest after unknown gunmen opened fire at an orphanage in Sagolband. Three suspects, including militants, were arrested. Curfew imposed in Churachandpur amid rising tribal tensions.
Locals on Wednesday staged a sit-in protest against the firing by unknown miscreants on an orphanage in the Sagolband area of Imphal West district of Manipur. People called for the criminals to be arrested right away. Police said that at least two armed miscreants fired six rounds of bullets at an ashram at around 1.40 am, where orphan children were living.

The protesters, carrying placards in their hands, raised slogans condemning the firing and demanded the immediate arrest of the criminals. Police said that at least two armed miscreants fired six rounds of bullets at an ashram at around 1.40 am, where orphan children were living.
It is regrettable that the children’s home was attacked, according to Khaiden Ongbi Romita, the orphanage’s director. Cause of the firing is not yet known. We appeal that such incidents should not be allowed to happen again in the future. There are many orphan children in the children’s home.
Three individuals from Imphal West, Imphal East, and Kangpokpi districts were detained by security authorities for engaging in extortion, including two terrorists. A member of the outlawed KCP from the Loitang Khullen community in the Imphal West district has been taken into custody, according to the police.
In the Imphal East district’s Sagolmang market, a PREPAK (Pro) member was taken into custody. Meanwhile, someone from Khamenlok in the Kangpokpi district was taken into custody for extorting truck drivers out of their money.
Curfew has been imposed in parts of Churachandrapur district in view of tension between villages of two different tribes over the hoisting of community flags in a disputed area.
Tension erupted between the Zomi and Hmar tribes after community flags were hoisted in a disputed area between KV Munhoih and Rengkai villages in Churachandrapur sub-division. Given the prevailing situation, Churachandrapur District Magistrate Dharun Kumar has imposed curfew in the two villages and the entire Kangwai, Samulamlan, and Sangaikote subdivisions of the district.
