Multilateralism In Critical Crisis, Time For UN Reform: Jaishankar

Multilateralism in critical crisis, time for UN reform: Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Wednesday that multilateralism is in serious crisis and now the time for reform in the United Nations is in the interest of the world community.

Jaishankar said that if the existing system of rights between the five veto power countries and other countries remains, then the credibility and relevance of the United Nations will be less, which will not be in the interest of the world community.

The External Affairs Minister was speaking at the launch of the book ‘Portraits of Power: Half a Century of Being at a Ring Side’ by NK Singh, former bureaucrat and current chairman of the Finance Commission.

The Foreign Minister said that it is time for reform of the United Nations. It is time to move beyond speeches and commitments.

For the last 15 years, there are only talks of improvement. If we are serious about reform, then we have to move forward by negotiating at every point.

Meanwhile, the US action on six media companies of China as they are driving the Chinese agenda put in the list of foreign missions

On Wednesday, the US put six more Chinese media institutions in the list of foreign missions, describing the Chinese Communist Party as ‘Bhompu’ or ‘propaganda tools’.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo described these companies as propaganda institutions controlled by the ruling Communist Party of China.

These include Yikai Global, Jiefang Daily, Shinmin Evening News, Social Sciences in China Press, Beijing Review, and Economic Daily.

Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo said that these institutions are owned and controlled by the Chinese government. These companies were promoting the Communist propaganda of the Chinese Communist Party.

However, he also made it clear that the move would not impose any restrictions on these institutions related to publishing material.

State Department spokesman Morgan Ortagus said the move is intended to make American citizens aware of the truth of these institutions. Earlier on February 18 and June 22, the US had put several Chinese media institutions on this list.
