Navy gets second ship of Project 15B, this warship can carry 7400 tonnes.

The Defense Ministry says the second ship of the stealth-guided missile destroyer Project 15B has been handed over to the Navy. It has been prepared by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders.

The contract for four ships under Project 15B was approved on 28 January 2011. This warship is 163 meters long, and 17 meters wide, and can carry 7400 tonnes.

Capable of swimming at a speed of thirty knots.

Equipped with weapons, this ship can swim at a maximum speed of thirty knots. Equipped with lethal weapons, this vessel comes in both the move and float categories.

Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missiles (Bell, Bengaluru), BrahMos Surface-to-Surface Missile (Aerospace, Delhi), Deadly Torpedo Tube Launchers (Larsen & Toubro, Mumbai), about 75 percent of the weapons in the highly lethal project, Anti-Submarine Indigenous Rocket Launcher (Larsen & Toubro, Mumbai) and 76mm Super Rapid Gun Mount (BHEL, Haridwar).

The Ministry issued a statement saying that Y 12705 (Mormugao), the second ship of the Intelligence Guided Missile Destroyer Project 15B built at Mazagon Postal Shipyards Limited (MDL), has been handed over to the Indian Navy on Thursday.

This project is the next level of last decade’s Kolkata class (Project 15A). INS Visakhapatnam, the lead ship of this project, was inducted into the Indian Navy on November 21, 2021, last year.

The four ships, designed by Warship Design Bureau, the in-house organization of the Indian Navy, have been deployed to the four corners of the country at Visakhapatnam, Mormugao, Imphal, and Surat.

The keel of the ship Mormugao was laid in June 2015 and the ship was launched on 17 September 2016.
