Only female wrestler Anshu Malik could win a silver medal: 2020 Wrestling World.

On the final day of the ongoing Wrestling World Cup in Belgrade, Serbia, the hopes of winning the bronze medal in two weight categories were shocked.

Indian wrestlers Gaurav Balian and Deepak Poonia were eliminated from the competition, losing their respective bouts for bronze medals in the repechage.

Greco Roman and freestyle Indian wrestlers could not win any medals. Only female wrestler Anshu Malik could win the silver medal.

In the matches played late on Friday, Gaurav competed against a Belarus wrestler in 79 kg.

The Belarusian wrestler defeated Gaurav in a one-sided match before the first round was completed and captured the bronze medal.

Then in 86 kg, India’s star wrestler Deepak Punia wrestled wrestler Inulaev of Maldova. The wrestler from Moldova defeated Deepak to win the bronze medal.

World cup wrestling 2020: India’s disappointing performance in the competition.

India’s performance in the Wrestling World Cup was disappointing. Initially, Greco Roman’s entire team returned home without winning a medal.

After this, even the female wrestlers could not break the chain of despair. Sakshi Malik, Sarita More, and Gursharanpreet Kaur lost out after losing their matches.

After this, Deepak Poonia was being considered a strong contender for the medal in freestyle but he could not show any charisma with the whole team.

One medal in the country’s bag

Anshu Malik, a female wrestler of 57 kg weight category, could win the only medal in the entire competition which ran from December 12 to 18.

Although Anshu Malik lost in the final to Moldova’s wrestler she managed to win the silver medal.

On Friday, Gaurav Balyan was knocked out of the competition for a bronze medal at the Repiches, 14–1, by a Belarus wrestler. At the same time, Deepak Poonia lost to Moldova’s Palsan 4-0 in 86 kg.

The Indian team continues to perform well in the World Cup boxing being played in Germany.

Indian star boxer Amit Panghal confirmed his place in the final with a win in the semi-finals on Thursday and now women’s boxer Simranjit Kaur managed to make it to the finals.

World Championship bronze medalist Simranjit Kaur (60 kg) defeated Ukraine’s Mariana Basenets on Friday to advance to the final of the Boxing World Cup in Cologne, Germany.

Asian Championship silver medalist Simranjit entered the title match with a 4–1 victory, which will be played on Saturday.
