Oicha Mayor Nicolas Kambale said the United Democratic Forces (ADF), affiliated with the Islamic State terrorist group, attacked residents of the Beni district in northern Kivu late Friday evening.

On Saturday, he said, “The enemy killed him brutally.” Kambale said at least 22 civilians were killed in the attack.

A few days ago, ADF soldiers killed more than 30 civilians, including women and children, between Ituri’s Irumu and Mambasa districts.
