In a major security success along the Line of Control (LoC), the Indian Army on Wednesday foiled a dangerous BAT (Border Action Team) attack launched by the Pakistani Army in the Uri sector of North Kashmir. The attempted infiltration, aimed at breaching Indian defences near the forward observation posts, was thwarted after a swift and coordinated counter-response by Indian troops.

According to initial reports, soldiers of the 8 Rashtriya Rifles, deployed for forward patrolling in the Kamalkot–Lachipora belt of Uri, detected unusual movement close to the LoC in the early hours. The patrol team spotted four to five heavily armed men carrying automatic weapons and advancing stealthily towards Indian territory.

What immediately raised suspicions was the direction of movement—straight towards a strategically located forward observation post under the jurisdiction of the Butcher Post. This indicated that the intruders were not routine infiltrators but a specialized Pakistani BAT squad, trained for high-risk cross-border strikes targeting Indian positions.

Realising the gravity of the threat, Indian soldiers alerted nearby posts and tactically positioned themselves to intercept the advancing BAT operatives. As the BAT team closed in, the Indian Army challenged them, prompting the Pakistani squad to open heavy fire.

A fierce 15–20 minute gun battle erupted along the LoC as Indian soldiers retaliated with equal intensity. The exchange of fire forced the BAT unit to halt its advance, and shortly afterward, they ceased firing—possibly taking advantage of darkness and rugged terrain to retreat.

Security sources believe there is a strong possibility that at least one BAT member may have been injured or killed during the encounter. They also warned that the BAT operatives could be hiding in the forested region or attempting to regroup with Pakistani-backed terrorist infiltrators, a tactic often used along this stretch of the LoC.

In response, the Indian Army has launched a massive search operation across the entire Uri sector, which remains one of the most sensitive infiltration corridors. Several villages around the encounter site have been declared no-movement zones, restricting civilian traffic for safety and operational reasons.

Multiple checkpoints have been established on all approach routes, with vehicles and individuals being thoroughly checked by soldiers and security personnel. Drone surveillance and sniffer dog units are also believed to be deployed as part of the ongoing search effort.

The Army has reiterated that it will continue to maintain heightened vigilance along the LoC to counter any further infiltration attempts by the Pakistani Army or Pakistan-sponsored terror groups. Officials stated that the situation remains fluid, and additional details are expected as the search operation progresses.

This foiled BAT attack in Uri once again highlights Pakistan’s persistent attempts to destabilize the region and breach India’s border security. However, the swift and decisive response by Indian troops reaffirms their preparedness to neutralize any hostile action along the LoC.
