PFI had deposited a significant amount for organizing terror camp: ED
The Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is probing the money laundering case against the Popular Front of India (PFI).
ED alleged on Tuesday that the Kerala-based organization PFI had deposited substantial funds to organize terror camps in the state.
The remarks were made in a special court of the Money Laundering Act (PMLA) opposing the bail plea of PFI Student Front leader KA Rauf Sharif.
Sharif has been arrested in connection with the money-laundering investigation.
The ED said in a statement that it started the investigation on the basis of the charge sheet filed in the special court by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The NIA said in its 2013 charge sheet that a group of PFI and SDPI activists had committed a criminal conspiracy to teach their activists the use of explosives and weapons and organized a terrorist camp at Narath in Kannur district.
The charge sheet states that the camp was organized to promote enmity between different religions, to prepare them for terrorist activities, and thus committed the crime of disturbing the unity and integrity of the country.
ED said PFI had amassed sufficient funds for organizing terrorist camps and for the activities related to it and damaging communal harmony.
During the investigation, several PFI bank accounts and other financial documents were analyzed.
