Prahlad Patel worshiped in the 700-year-old Sheetal Nath Bhairav temple, which was targeted by the fundamentalists 27 years ago: Kashmir.

Sheetal Nath Bhairav Temple, the main center of faith of Kashmiri Hindus, is again looking bright. This 700-year-old temple was set on fire by the fundamentalists about 27 years ago.

During his visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti Prahlad Patel reached here and got the temple managers to open the doors and performed Jalabhishek of Lord Sheetaleshwar.

The temple has been worshiped from time to time, but most of the time this temple was deserted.

Shitaleshwar Sheetalnath Bhairav Temple, located at Karalkhud, about two kilometers from Lal Chowk in the city of Srinagar, is one of the ancient and mythological shrines of Kashmir.

There are 13 Bhairavs in the city of Srinagar and among them, Sheetaleshwar Sheetalnath is considered to be the most sacred and prominent.

It is also mentioned in Neelmat Purana and Rajatarangini. Jonraja, the chief historian of the Muslim ruler of Kashmir, Zainul Abdin, has also mentioned this.

The Union Minister tweeted after worshiping at the temple that it was a privilege to consecrate the more than 700-year-old Sheetalnath Mahadev in Srinagar.

This temple was also burnt by the terrorists. The temple, which was closed for three decades, was opened by the administration at my request and I got the opportunity to have darshan.

The center of the main faith of Kashmiri Pandits: After the era of terrorism started in Kashmir, there was an exodus of Kashmiri Hindus, then this temple also got ruined.

Before that every year on the day of Vasant Panchami, devotees from all over Kashmir used to gather in the Sheetalnath temple.

How important this temple has been for Kashmiri Pandits, can be gauged from the fact that they used to gather in this complex to discuss social and political issues.

There is also a school on the temple premises. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Frontier Gandhi, and Mahatma Gandhi have also held meetings in this temple.

About 55 years ago in Kashmir, when a movement against the abduction of a Kashmiri Pandit woman was started from this temple. Seven agitators were martyred. His tomb is also in this temple.

The temple was formally opened in 2010: If the situation improved a little, this temple formally opened in 2010 and then worshiped on Vasant Panchami every year.

Although the fair is not held as before, Kashmiri Hindus gather at the temple and offer prayers.

This year, on the occasion of the Navreh festival, Kashmiri Pandits worshiped at Sheetaleshwar Bhairav. On normal days this temple remains deserted.
