Premature Release Of Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar Stuck

Premature release of Delhi bombing convict Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar stuck, some Sikh leaders demanded.

The Sentence Review Board (SRB) of the Delhi government has deferred its decision on the premature release of the 1993 Delhi bomb blast case convict Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar.

A meeting of SRB was held on Wednesday in this regard. The matter was deferred till the next meeting in the board meeting chaired by Home Minister Satyendar Jain. Bhullar is currently lodged in Amritsar jail.

The demand of some Sikh leaders for Bhullar’s release had gained momentum ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections.

Former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had requested Bhullar’s immediate release in the larger interest of strengthening peace and communal harmony in Punjab during the elections.

He had accused the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi of obstructing Bhullar’s release.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who had gone to campaign for the party in the Punjab Assembly elections, hit back saying that the SAD was dirty on this sensitive issue. doing politics.

He had talked about convening a meeting in this regard by the Delhi government soon. Kejriwal had said in the statement that he has given instructions to the officials in this regard.

Including the Director-General of Tihar Jail, Secretary of Home and Law Departments of Delhi Government, and Social Welfare Department.

Bhullar was convicted in the 1993 Delhi bomb blasts killing nine people and injuring 31. Former Youth Congress President MS Bitta is also among those who survived the attack.

Bhullar was sentenced to death by a TADA court on 25 August 2001. However, the Supreme Court commuted his death sentence to life imprisonment.

Bhullar was shifted from Tihar Jail in Delhi to Amritsar Central Jail in June 2015 due to health reasons.

Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) President Harmeet Singh Kalka and General Secretary Jagdeep Singh Kahlon said that the AAP government does not care about the sentiments of Sikhs.

During the Punjab Assembly elections, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had promised Bhullar’s release.

After the elections are over, the Chief Minister has forgotten his promise. He said that DSGMC will continue to fight for Bhullar’s release.
