PV Sindhu And HS Prannoy Enter The Quarter-finals
PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy enter the quarter-finals of the Malaysia Open: Malaysia Open-2022.
Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu made a comeback from a fall to reach the quarter-finals of the Malaysia Open.
She defeated Phitayaporn Cheiwan of Thailand in the women’s singles pre-quarterfinal match played on Thursday.
World No. 7 Sindhu defeated her Thailand rival 19-21, 21-9, 21-14 in the second round of 57 minutes.
The seventh-seeded Indian will next take on arch-rivals Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei in the next round. Sindhu had lost 19-21 in the first game.
Then in the second game, she made a comeback and won the match 21-9 and took the match to the third game.
PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy in the quarter-finals: In the third game, the Thailand player tried to make a comeback but Sindhu won the quarter-finals after registering a 21-14 win.
At the same time, world number 21 HS Prannoy also managed to make it to the quarter-finals of men’s singles. He defeated fourth seed Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei 21-15, 21-7 in successive games.
Unseeded Prannoy, one of the heroes of India’s historic title win in the Thomas Cup, will take on Indonesia’s seventh seed Jonathan Christie in the next round.
Sai Praneeth and Sameer Verma crashed out in the first round of the Malaysia Open
Indian shuttlers B Sai Praneeth and Sameer Verma suffered a tough first-round defeat in the men’s singles match of the Malaysia Open Super 750 badminton tournament on Tuesday.
Praneeth was defeated by world number 6 Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia while Sameer lost to world number 8 Jonathan Christie of Indonesia.
World No. 19 Sai Praneeth, 30, lost 15-21, 21-19, 9-21 to Ginting in a 50-minute men’s singles match. The Indonesian player has won 4 matches against Praneeth while he had to face defeat in 3.
The two last met during the 2020 Asian Team Championships and Ginting won the match when Praneeth withdrew due to injury.
