PV Sindhu wins in All England Championship, Srikanth and Kashyap out.
World champion badminton player PV Sindhu started her campaign with a win at the All England Championships here on Wednesday, while Kidambi Srikanth and Parupalli Kashyap lost their respective opening round matches.
Olympic silver medalist Sindhu defeated Malaysia’s Sonia Chia 21-11 21-17 in 38 minutes. Eighth seed Srikanth lost 11-21, 21-15, 12-21 to Ireland’s unseeded Nguyen Nahat on the opening day of the tournament.
The match lasted for an entire hour in which the Ireland player made a spectacular comeback after missing the second game.
Commonwealth Games gold medalist Kashyap was defeated by top seed Kento Momota of Japan 13–21, 2–22 in a 42-minute match.
The Indian pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy, however, defeated Thailand’s Benyapa Amsard and Nunatakarn Amsard in straight games in the women’s doubles match.

But the team has decided to withdraw from the tournament after one person was found to be infected with the coronavirus.
The BWF said in an official statement, “BWF and Badminton England can confirm that many players and team members of the Indonesian team have been contacted by the KIUK Government’s National Health Service (NHS) Test and Trace Service and they have been there being a need to self-isolate with immediate effect.
Not all Indonesian players will be able to compete in the current or next round of the tournament. So they have decided to withdraw from the All England Open 2021. “
