Born on 20 August 1944

Rajiv Gandhi was born on 20 August 1944, Mumbai. After assuming office in October 1984, he became the youngest Prime Minister of India. He served as the Prime Minister of India until 2 December 1989. Rajiv Gandhi was the 6th Prime Minister of the country.

Married to Sonia Gandhi

Rajiv Gandhi was married to Antonia Maino, who was a citizen of Italy at the time. After marriage, his wife changed the name to Sonia Gandhi. She is said to have met Rajiv Gandhi when Rajiv went to study in Cambridge. They were married in 1968, after which she moved to India.

Was assassinated in 1991

In May 1991, Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by a suicide rival of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) during an election rally in Sriperumbudur, TN.
