After this, Shefali Verma, who came out to make her Test debut, made everyone her admirer by playing a brilliant 96 in the very first match.

On the second day of the match being played between India and England women’s team, Shefali made a great debut on Thursday.

In the very first match, she played such an innings that made the big stalwarts her fan. Facing 152 balls, Shefali scored a total of 96 runs with the help of 13 fours and 2 sixes.

The batsman, who missed her century by just 4 runs, made her debut with a bang. She added 167 runs for the first wicket with veteran Smriti Mandhana.

Shefali completed her fifty off 83 balls with the help of 8 fours and 1 six. During this, she became the second youngest Indian to score a half-century in Test cricket.

Rajini Venugopal scored a Test fifty in 17 years and 36 days. Shefali’s age is 17 years 139 days. Her partner Mandhana scored a half-century in Tests in 18 years and 27 days.

Earlier, the Indian bowlers had to struggle for the second consecutive day.

England started the game ahead of 269 for six, after which debutant Sofia Dunkley (74 not out) played two important partnerships with the tail batsmen besides an unbeaten half-century.

Dunkley added 56 runs for the eighth wicket with Sophie Ecclestone (17) and then a 70-run partnership with Anya Shrubsole. Anya also troubled the Indian bowlers with a career-best 47.

England declared the innings as soon as Anya was dismissed, who was bowled by Sneha Rana, making it the best performance by this Indian bowler with four wickets.

In the morning session, England lost the first wicket in the form of Katherine Brunt who was lbw by veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami on the 12th ball of the day.

With this wicket, 38 years and 204 days, Goswami became the oldest player after Sachin Tendulkar to take a Test wicket. She also became the oldest Indian fast bowler after Lala Amarnath (1952) to take a Test wicket.
