Six people arrested for stealing money from donation boxes of temples: Andhra Pradesh. Six People of a gang have been arrested by the police of Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram districts for stealing money from the donation boxes of temples.
The arrested persons have been identified as M Nagarjuna, T Veera Babu, M Dhanraju, Ch Sai, A Chiranjeevi, and G Ishwar Rao, residents of Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram districts.
Visakhapatnam Range Deputy Inspector General of Police K.V. Ranga Rao said during the press conference here on Sunday that during interrogation, the gang members had confessed to the crime.
Giving information about the incident, he said that on September 23, the gang stole a donation box with cash and some valuables from a temple in Jammu village in Vizianagaram district.
He also attempted to steal the collection box of a temple at Dasanapeta in Vizianagaram district. The Vizianagaram police formed a special team to nab the culprits following complaints from locals.
It was reported that the gang was involved in the looting of more than 10 temples in both the districts in the last few months.
He said that all gang members are habitual criminals and have been involved in property crimes in the area. Police recovered Rs 21,000 from the gang.
Lord Shiva temple in Chittoor vandalized with Nandi idol
A case of vandalism has come to light from a statue of Nandi by unknown miscreants in a Shiva temple at Agara Mangalam village in Gangadhara Nellore Mandal of Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh.
Chittoor SP Senthil Kumar said the Gangadhara Nellore police station received information on Sunday morning that some miscreants had damaged the Nandi statue in the Lord Shiva temple.
Kumar further said, ‘The police rushed to the spot immediately and started investigating the case. The idol of Nandi was found broken. The police questioned the locals about the incident. A case has been registered and an investigation has also been initiated.
