There is a ruckus in Chile these days. On Sunday, September 4, a referendum was held to accept or reject the new constitution.
The new constitution has been rejected in the referendum, after which the students’ protest started. On Wednesday, students protested at several metro stations in the capital.
There was a demand for reforms in the country’s education system in the past by the students.
Since Wednesday morning, information about the temporary suspension of the metro’s operation started coming from different stations of the Santiago Metro.
Students started gathering at the metro station in the morning for the demonstration. Later, a crowd of students gathered both inside and outside the stations.
Students protest in Chile: Although the protest was peaceful, no violent incident has been reported anywhere.
People recalled the protests in the past when in October 2019, the South American country witnessed a massive street violent protest against inequality.
The protests began less than a week after the proposed new constitution was overwhelmingly rejected in a referendum on Sunday.
As a result, progressive President Gabriel Borich had to reshuffle his cabinet to broaden the coalition of the government.
The Santiago Metro said on its Twitter account that service was disrupted at least a dozen stations due to student protests.
A group of students also clashed with the police at a school in the city of Santiago in the morning.
Members of the country’s interior ministry have also held a meeting to discuss the resolution of the protest.

According to the AP, Jacksonville Police Chief Mike Yaniro, two minors who were injured were taken to the Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune and later one died.
He said the attack in the high school looked like a stabbing, but the investigation was on.
He further told that a teacher is also injured, but he was not attacked with a knife, he was given medical treatment on the spot.
