Swapna Suresh, the main accused in the gold smuggling case of Kerala revealed, where were these days. The main accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case has revealed in a statement that she had gone to Kochi with her co-accused Sandeep Nair after the customs authorities exposed the smuggling of 30 kg of gold on July 5. Here both of them stayed in a hotel in Perumanur for two days.

She has revealed this in her statement to the customs department. She said that she had reached Varkala with her family and lawyer after the department exposed the smuggling. Sandeep and Swapna then fled to Kochi from here but were eventually arrested by the National Investigation Agency. Apart from this, Swapna also said that he had worked as secretary of the Consul General in the UAE Consulate till September 2019, after which he resigned from there.

Significantly, the Customs Department on July 5 uncovered the smuggling of 30 kg of gold worth about Rs 15 crore at the Thiruvananthapuram airport. The gold was sent concealed in air cargo in the name of the Consul General of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The agency has accused 25 people in this case, out of which 20 have been arrested. A special PMLA court in Kochi earlier extended the judicial custody of three key accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case – Sarith PS, Swapna Suresh, and Sandeep Nair – till 9 September.

At the same time, after the fire in secretariat a few days ago, the opposition party (BJP and Congress) tried to surround the government. The BJP and the Congress had accused the government of burning all the files related to the gold smuggling case. After this, Kerala Law Minister AK Balan had rejected the opposition’s allegations that BJP and Congress were spreading lies about the fire in the secretariat. Along with this, he had also confirmed that no file related to the case has been burnt. Apart from this, the data of files are also saved in e-files.
