Tejas aircraft will be more powerful equipped with hammer missiles, will destroy bunkers 70 km away.
To further enhance the capability of indigenous Light Combat Aircraft Tejas, the Indian Air Force has placed an order for the purchase of Hammer (Highly Agile Modular Munition Extended Range) missiles from France.
These missiles are capable of hitting any strong bunker or ground target at a range of more than 70 kms.
Amidst the ongoing standoff with China, the Air Force has ordered these missiles using the right of emergency procurement from the government.
The Indian Air Force had received the first consignment of Hammer missiles for the Rafale aircraft when their supplies from France started.
In view of the aggressive attitude of China, at that time France had agreed to supply these missiles for our Rafale aircraft in a very short time.
France designed them for its Air Force and Navy. Let us inform you that two squadrons of Tejas are already in operation in the Indian Air Force.
Tejas is considered to be much more capable than the JF-17 fighter aircraft, a joint venture of Pakistan and China. With Hammer missiles, the capability of Tejas will increase further.
Air Force eyes LCA Mark 2.
The Indian Armed Forces have extensively used the Emergency Procurement Powers from the Government to equip themselves with the necessary weapons to deal with any misadventure or aggression by the enemy on both fronts.
The Indian Air Force is strongly supporting the indigenous LCA Tejas fighter aircraft. The IAF is also eyeing the LCA Mark II and the AMCA being developed by DRDO for the same.
