Last week, Mehran was killed by security forces in an encounter with two of his associates. The police are now trying to identify his other associates, in which the name of a girl from Srinagar is also cropping up.

According to highly placed sources of security agencies, Mehran, who once worked as a delivery boy in Srinagar, became a terrorist in May this year.

He got involved in terrorist activities under the banner of The Resistance Front under Lashkar terrorist Abbas Sheikh.

The Resistance Front is a front organization of Lashkar-e-Taiba.

After Abbas Sheikh was killed in an encounter on August 24, Mehran started working directly on the instructions of a Pakistan-based handler.

According to intelligence agencies, he was in touch with three handlers based in Pakistan, including two from Lashkar and one from ISI.

These handlers are being identified. On the instructions of these handlers, Mehran conspired to spread panic by selectively killing non-Muslims.

A senior security agency official said Mehran had a good knowledge of the streets of Srinagar as he worked as a delivery boy, due to which he could easily escape after committing the crime.

First he targeted chemist Makhan Lal Bindu. After that, the street vendor Virendra Paswan was killed.

Two days later, principal Supinder Kaur and teacher Deepak Chand were murdered at a school in Srinagar. 10 days later, Mehran was also involved in the killing of laborers of Bihar in Srinagar.

Mehran remained calm for a few days after the strictness of the security forces, but on 8 October he again reached the shop of a Kashmiri Hindu to kill him.

But by mistake, he killed the salesman Ghulam Muhammad Khan.

The senior official said that Mehran’s associates in Srinagar are being traced, in which the name of a girl has come to the fore.

Working as an Over Ground Worker (OWG), the girl used to help Mehran from choosing the target to doing Reiki.

Apart from this, seven-eight of his associates in South Kashmir have also been identified, who had also got money from Pakistan.

He said that soon action would be ensured against all the associates of Mehran.
