Two University of Idaho roommates who survived a mysterious quadruple murder in their off-campus home speak for the first time.

Roommates Kayleigh Gonsalves, 21, Madison Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Kernodle’s boyfriend Ethan Chapin, 20, were stabbed to death in the early hours of Nov. 13 at an off-campus girls’ home.

No suspects have been identified.

The two surviving roommates, who police said were not suspects, may have overslept during the attack, authorities said.

They were on the first floor and the four students killed were on the second and third floors. Police did not identify the surviving roommate.

The killing appeared to have occurred around 3 or 4 a.m., officials said. In the morning, two roommates called their friends on the second floor, thinking that one of the victims had passed out and would not wake up, police said.

At 11:58 a.m., one of the roommates’ phones called 911, asking for help from the unconscious man, police said.

The identification of the 911 caller changed now no longer released, however, police said: “numerous human beings referred to as the 911 dispatcher”.
