UK Prime Minister Liz Truss resigns in 45 days, now who will be the next PM?

UK Prime Minister Liz Truss, who was going through a political crisis, resigned on Thursday. Due to heavy pressure, she resigned about 6 weeks after becoming the Prime Minister.

She was elected Prime Minister on 6 September 2022. Earlier, she had removed her finance minister. After that, her Home Minister resigned.

After that, there was pressure on her to resign from the Conservative Party. Now again there is talk of Boris Johnson or Rishi Sunak becoming PM.

Former Truss rival Rishi Sunak is currently being seen as the PM’s race frontman. Truss said in a brief statement outside 10 Downing Street that she could not do the job she was selected for.

She has spoken to King Charles III to inform him of her resignation and has also met with Sir Graham Brady, the Tory leadership’s election in charge to the chairman of the 1922 committee.

The 47-year-old outgoing prime minister will remain in office until her successor is chosen.

The leadership election will be completed at a brisk pace by next week. The opposition Labor Party has demanded immediate elections.

Last month the British government presented an economic plan, the failure of which has led to economic turmoil and a political crisis.

After this, Liz Truss had to reverse many policies apart from changing the finance minister. After that Liz Truss said that ‘I apologize for all the mistakes I made, but I will not step down.

Truss had said that I want to accept the responsibility and apologize for the mistakes that have been made.

Also, during her tenure, there was indiscipline in the ruling Conservative Party. Many Conservative Party leaders said that Liz Truss should resign as Prime Minister.

The Home Minister resigned on Wednesday.

Earlier on Wednesday, Indian-origin Home Minister Suella Braverman (42) resigned on Wednesday.

She sent the message through a personal email. According to the rules, this was a serious mistake. After that, she resigned. She served only 43 days as UK Home Secretary.

Suella said that I made a mistake, I accept it and I am resigning from the post of Home Minister. Her statement regarding the Indian visa had come under a lot of controversies.

She had also tried to compensate for the loss caused by that statement by expressing brashly for having a free trade treaty with India.

Tory members are considering Boris Johnson as a better option for Truss.

This information was revealed in a new survey conducted among the members of the Conservative Party recently. 63 percent of Tory members see Boris Johnson as a better alternative to Liz Truss.

In the survey, 32 percent supported Johnson as the PM candidate and 23 percent supported Rishi Sunak. 83 percent of the Conservative Party members believe that Truss’s job as PM is very poor.

Of these, 72 percent are members who supported him for the post of PM. Since then Tory members have been considering options to replace the truss.

Conservative Party members who chose Liz Truss as PM a month and a half ago were regretting the decision.
