While the US is discussing tougher measures on gun violence, Chicago witnessed a series of shootings on Saturday (local time), in which five people were killed and 16 were injured.
Police said at least five people have been killed and 16 others injured in shootings in downtown Chicago so far this weekend, NBC reports.
Woman shot dead in South Albany.
In one incident, a 37-year-old woman was shot dead at around 12:19 a.m. Saturday in the 0-100 block of South Albany, officials said. The woman was in a vehicle.
The woman received multiple bullets on the head and body. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. He was later declared dead.
34-year-old man murdered in South Indiana.
A 34-year-old man was shot at around 2:27 a.m. Saturday in the 2800 block of South Indiana. He was found lying inside a vehicle. He had been shot several times.
He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead.
A 23-year-old man dies in South Damon.
In the most recent fatal shooting, a 23-year-old man was killed and three others were injured at around 3:20 p.m. Saturday in the 8600 block of South Damon.
Officials said four people were coming from a street. Then people coming from an unknown vehicle fired multiple bullets at the 23-year-old man, killing him at Advocate Christ Medical Center.
At the same time, a 39-year-old man was shot in the left leg. Besides this, a 24-year-old victim was shot in the left leg and was also in good condition.
Police said the fourth victim, a 42-year-old man, had multiple bullet marks on his body. He was admitted to the hospital.
25-year-old shot dead in South Justin.
In the first fatal shooting of the weekend, a 25-year-old man was shot dead at around 5:02 p.m. Friday in the 6800 block of South Justin, officials said.
The victim had been shot in the head and torso. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
26-year-old shot dead in West 18th Street.
In the second fatal shooting, a 26-year-old man was shot dead at around 11:05 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of West 18th Street, officials said.
According to the police, the victim was shot in the chest. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died.
