UNHRC passes resolution to free detained Myanmar political officials

The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on Friday passed a unanimous resolution condemning the military coup in Myanmar and the immediate and unconditional release of all arbitrarily detained persons in the country and the removal of the state of emergency called upon.

The UNHRC said in a statement, ‘In a resolution on the human rights implications of the crisis in Myanmar, which was adopted in amended form without a vote.

The council also voiced the immediate and unconditional release of all people who were detained after the coup, including state counselor Aung San Suu Kyi and President Vin Myint, and others.

The UNHRC further noted that the UN Human Rights High Commissioner and Special Envoy is needed to monitor the situation of human rights in Myanmar, which can take information about the current situation there.

And has asked the Human Rights Council to provide updates in its report. According to the statement, Myanmar officials have been asked to join and cooperate with the UN human rights system.
