Vivo Tops Indian Smartphone Market: Vivo beats Samsung to lead India’s smartphone market in 2024. IDC report reveals 128M phones shipped, with top sales in the ₹10K – ₹30K range.
Vivo became the king of the Indian smartphone market, the most sold phones in the range of Rs 30,000. The Indian smartphone market is quite competitive. There is a competition among companies to attract customers throughout the year. This is the reason why companies keep launching smartphones with new features and upgraded specifications at regular intervals. According to the latest report of IDC, smartphone sales in India registered a growth of 5% during the year 2024, with a total shipment of 128 million units. The most interesting thing is that one-third of the total sales of phones have been sold in the top 10 cities of the country.
According to this report, Vivo has sold the most phones in India. After that, Samsung was in the second position, Xiaomi at the third, OPPO at the fourth, and Realme at the fifth position.
Vivo has secured the top position with 14.1% annual growth. At the same time, Samsung’s sales have declined by 7%. Xiaomi has got a marginal growth of 2.4% and OPPO has got 13.4%. Realme has faced a decline of 10.9% in sales.
Vivo has taken the lead in all regions of the country; only in South India, Samsung got the lead with 15.9% share.
Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai have been the top 3 cities of the country in terms of smartphone sales. Sales have been the highest here. However, compared to last year, Delhi saw a decline of 3.8%, Mumbai 6% and Chennai 2.4%. At the same time, Chandigarh has registered a tremendous growth of 22.8% in smartphone sales, surprising everyone.
In 2024, the growth of smartphone sales has been seen in tier 3 cities. In these cities, growth has been seen in the sale of phones priced between Rs 20 thousand to Rs 50 thousand and above Rs 50 thousand.
Meerut, Bhubaneswar and Hubli-Dharwad were the top 3 tier-3 cities where rapid growth was seen. In these cities, the share of sales of smartphones in the range of Rs 10,000 to Rs 30,000 has been 59.4 percent.

Phones priced above Rs 50,000 have a share of 20% in total phone sales. At the same time, 50% of the total phones sold were in the range of Rs 10,000 to Rs 30,000. Among these, the volume of smartphones with a budget of Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 is the highest. However, in terms of growth in sales, in 2024, more phones priced above 20,000 have been sold this year as compared to last year.
