Women’s FIFA U-17 World Cup May Be Postponed Again

Women’s FIFA U-17 World Cup may be postponed again. The next year’s FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup in India may be postponed. The FIFA Women’s Under-17 World Cup Corona Virus (COVID-19) epidemic in February-March in India can be postponed again.

The tournament was earlier scheduled to be held at five venues in India from November 2 to 21, but due to the epidemic, it was decided to host it from February 17 to March 7 next year. There are no signs of the epidemic still subsiding.

Apart from this, qualifying tournaments of Africa, North and Central America, and South America are yet to be held, in which case the tournament is likely to be postponed again. All India Football Federation general secretary Kushal Das said that he had not received any new information on the matter.

Kushal Das told the leading news agency that no official update has been received on the matter yet. When asked if the tournament was likely to be postponed in view of the prevailing situation, he said that it could be postponed.

There are less than five months left for the tournament and the Federations of Africa (CAF), North and Central America (CONCACAF), and South America (CONMEBOL) are yet to host their qualifiers.

Europe (UEFA) canceled its qualifying tournament last month and named Spain, England, and Germany among its highest-ranked teams.

The Confederation of Oceania (OFA) did the same and named New Zealand their representative in the Under-17 World Cup. Only Asia (AFC) held the qualifier.

Japan and North Korea qualified after becoming champions and runners-up in the 2019 AFC Under-16 Women’s Championship respectively. The AIFF had planned to start a national camp early next month, but the event would not take place if the tournament was postponed.

March Messi head coach Thomas Dennerby is at his home in Sweden. Players have returned to their homes and are away from outdoor training since the epidemic was announced in March as a lockdown.
