Yair Lapid becomes the new Prime Minister of Israel, the term may be of only five months; Know the reason; Israel’s New PM.
Israel has got its 14th Prime Minister in the form of Yair Lapid. However, Lapid, who became a troubleshooter after Israel’s political crisis, may have a short tenure.
This is because he has taken over as caretaker prime minister ahead of Israel’s election to be held on 1 November.
“We are a Jewish democratic country and will do our best to make it prosperous,” Lapid said at the handover ceremony as soon as he took the keys to power from alternative Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.
Joe Biden congratulates.
Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden congratulated Lapid on becoming the new prime minister.
Writing on Twitter, he said, “Congratulations to the new Prime Minister of Israel, Yair Lapid.
Biden has also thanked Naftali Bennett, who has also become an alternate PM, for the friendship over the past year.
Biden said in another tweet that “I look forward to seeing you both in July to celebrate the unbreakable US-Israel partnership.”
This will be Lapid’s first agenda.
Let us tell you that Lapid’s first agenda on his first day in office will be meeting with Ronen Barr, the head of the Shin Bet security agency at Kirya military headquarters in Tel Aviv.
Soon after, the new prime minister will discuss the return of the remains of two Israeli civilians and two Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers held captive by Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
The matter came into the limelight after the video of Hamas.
As The Times of Israel reports, the topic again hit the headlines this week after Hamas aired a video showing Israeli captive Hisham al-Saeed wearing an oxygen mask, after crossing Gaza in 2015.
This was his first picture since. Hamas is also believed to have Evra Mengistu, as well as the remains of soldiers Oron Shawl and Haider Goldin. Talks to secure his release have stalled for years.
Will meet the President of France on 5th July.
According to The Times of Israel, Yair Lapid is scheduled to make a brief visit to Paris on July 5, where he will meet French President Emmanuel Macron.
On Sunday, Lapid is expected to convene the first weekly cabinet meeting of his premiership. Bennett is set to remain in government as an alternate prime minister.
He will also continue to handle the responsibility of the country’s Iran policy. Bennett also announced on Wednesday that he had no plans to run in the next parliamentary election.
The fifth election will be held in three and a half years
Let us tell you that after the voting last night, the Israeli Parliament has been dissolved. With this, it has now been decided to hold the general election in November.
Due to this decision, general elections will be held in Israel for the fifth time in three and a half years.
Bennett has now become the person to hold the post of Prime Minister for the shortest time in the history of the country.
