Delhi HC gave an important verdict on the bail plea of Devangana Kalita and Natasha Narwal along with Jamia Millia Islamia student Asif Iqbal Tanha, who was arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA),
The High Court granted regular bail to the three accused. Let us inform you that Iqbal Tanha, Devangana Kalita, and Natasha Narwal were arrested last year in the Delhi riots case.
During the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act in February 2020, 53 people were killed and about 200 people were injured in the violence.
Delhi Riots 2020: Court has granted interim bail to Iqbal Tanha to continue his studies from June 13 to June 26.
He will be staying in a hotel in Delhi to prepare for his exam which will start on June 15. In fact, on Tuesday, the bench pronounced the verdict on the regular bail plea of accused Tanha.
A bench of Justice Siddharth Mridul and Justice AJ Bhambhani of the Delhi High Court had in March reserved its verdict on the bail plea of Iqbal Tanha.
Iqbal Tanha has challenged in the High Court the decision of the lower court on 26 October 2020, in which the lower court had refused to grant bail to Tanha.
The trial court had said that according to the police, Tanha’s role in the communal riots that broke out in the northeast has come to the fore.
He is one of the main conspirators of these riots. Taking this basis, the court had refused to grant bail to Iqbal Tanha. However, on June 4, the Delhi High Court had granted interim bail to Iqbal Tanha for two weeks.
Let us inform here that during the protest against the National Citizenship Register and the Citizenship Amendment Act, there was a riot in North East Delhi in February 2020, in which hundreds of vehicles and some educational institutions were also set on fire.
