In a statement issued on the occasion of National Press Day, Chief Minister EPS said, ‘November 16 is celebrated as National Press Day every year in honor of the work of the press, which is hailed as the fourth pillar of democracy.

Jayalalithaa’s government, in the interest of the press, increased the monthly pension of 10,000 rupees for disabled journalists who have worked in the press for 20 years.
And the monthly family pension of 5,000 rupees and increased the funding for medical treatment provided by the Journalists’ Welfare Fund to journalists suffering from serious illnesses during their working hours to 2 lakh rupees.
Raised the family allowance from the Chief Minister’s General Relief Fund for journalists who have passed away during their tenure.
The Tamil Nadu Housing Board has been working for the betterment of journalists working in the field of various schemes.
Schemes such as allotment of houses at a low rent on government preference allotments to journalists working in the press.
Concessional housing to those working in newspapers and television in the districts and issuance of free bus passes to journalists with Government Authorization Cards.
