Former DU teacher GN Saibaba moves bail application in Bombay HC referring to frail health in the midst of the Covid-19 Pandemic. In his bail application, Saibaba said his frail health alongside comorbidities makes him defenseless against contract the coronavirus contamination.

Former DU(Delhi University) teacher G N Saibaba, who is carrying out an actual existence punishment in jail here for supposed Maoist connections, has recorded a bail application before the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court, referring to his feeble health and the flare-up of coronavirus in the prison.

After Saibaba recorded the bail request looking for an earnest hearing into it, a division bench of Judges Atul Chandurkar and Amit Borkar on Tuesday gave notification to the Maharashtra government and different respondents to document their answers before July 24, when the court will hear the case.

In his bail application, Saibaba said his feeble health alongside comorbidities makes him defenseless against contract the coronavirus contamination. He is lodged at the Nagpur Central Jail, where more than 150 detainees and 40 prison staff members have so far tried positive for coronavirus. The prison houses almost 1,800 detainees while 265 police faculty are appended to it.

In March 2017, a meeting court in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli locale indicted and condemned Saibaba and four others, including a columnist and a Jawaharlal Nehru College (JNU) student, for supposed Maoist connections and enjoying exercises adding up to taking up arms against the nation.

The court held Saibaba and others liable under the tough Unlawful Exercises Avoidance Act (UAPA). Following the conviction, Saibaba was stopped at the Nagpur jail.
