We keep it in a vault and protect it from the eyes of everyone and cherish it. Even after keeping it in such a safe way, we keep worrying whether our gold or valuables are safe or not.

But, there is one place in the world where the most valuable things can be kept safe for a lifetime…and that place is America’s Fort Knox Vault.

Whether you call it a building, a vault or call it a bunker. It keeps the treasury and gold reserve of the US government so safe that it is famous all over the world for its strict security.

Most Americans Don’t Know About Fort Knox.

Nobody Knows What’s Inside Fort Knox? Even most of the American public only knows through books, history classes, and TV shows that Fort Knox was built to hold a vast gold reserve.

It is a heavily guarded military base and one of the safest places in the world. So let’s know about it.

This building is known as Fort Knox. Actually, Fort Knox is a post of the American Army, which is in the state of Kentucky and it is spread over one lakh nine thousand acres.

It is considered one of the most secure buildings in the world. Fort Knox is a US Army post located in Kentucky, about 40 miles southwest of Louisville.

It was first established in 1918 as a training site during World War I and was later used as a gold reserve and storage site for other valuables during World War II.

In the year 1936, the construction of an underground vault was started at Fort Knox to keep the treasury safe and to store the gold reserve in America.

This massive vault was completed in 1937 and has since become an iconic symbol of American wealth and power.

The vault at Fort Knox is one of the most secure in the world and has multiple layers of security measures for the gold reserves stored within.

This vault is made of extremely strong steel and concrete, and its walls and ceiling are made with steel plates to prevent any kind of break-in or attack.

There are several armed guards on duty at all times and only authorized security personnel have access to the vault.

How is the building made?

The base is spread over an area of more than 109,000 acres and has a number of separate buildings within the campus that house the military personnel and their families.

These are the people who are in charge of the security of the Gold Reserve. Here inside a building is that vault, in which a huge stock of gold is kept.

The building is made up of about 16,000 cubic feet of granite and 4,500 meters of concrete, of which thousands of tons of steel were used.

The vault is protected by 27-inch-thick concrete and steel and is capable of withstanding an atomic bomb attack.

From gold reserves to the original copy of the constitution is kept here.

About 42 lakh kg of gold is kept in the Gold Reserve of Fort Knox.

Apart from this, there are also very important things like the original Declaration of American Independence, Gutenberg’s Bible, and the original copy of the American Constitution.

It has doors weighing 22 tonnes. This door is locked with the combination code of 10 different staff members. Each staff member never knows the code of another staff member other than his own code.

Gold is kept in this form.

Gold at Fort Knox is kept in the form of bars, also known as bullion.

This is 99.5% pure gold. Each bar weighs approximately 12½ kg or 27.5 pounds and measures 7 inches tall and 3.5 inches wide by U.S. Mint standards.

Based on a certain weight and size scale, these bars are considered to be completely pure gold.

The London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) created this standard of pure gold, which is also accepted by the US.
