Government Of Tamil Nadu Orders Issuance Of Caste Certificate
Government of Tamil Nadu orders the issuance of caste certificates under the common name of Devendrakula Vellalar.
The Government of Tamil Nadu has directed the District Collectors to issue caste certificates in the name of Devendrakula Vellalar covering six caste divisions namely Pallar, Devendrakulathan, Kudumban, Kaladi, Pannadi, and Kadayan.
The Government of Tamil Nadu has ordered that a caste certificate be issued under the common name of Devendrakula Velalar.
New Tamil Nadu party leader Krishnaswamy and others demanded that people belonging to the Pallar, Devendra clan, family, Kaladi, Pannadi, and Kadayan castes be called by the common name of Devendrakula Velalar.
The panel, set up to look into the matter, issued a report in November last year. The report was sent to the Central Government and, after the approval of the President, the amendment was published in the Gazette.
Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Secretary K Manivasan have directed the district collectors, department heads, and officials authorized to issue certificates to follow suit.
The order said, “Various parties had demanded that the government be called by the common name of Devendrakula Velalar, which includes the Pallar, Devendra Kulathan, Kudumban, Kaladi, Pannadi, and Kadayan castes.
A committee comprising of Rural Development and Panchayat Department, Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department, Legal Department.
Adi Dravidar, and Tribal Welfare Department Director was constituted to study and report to the Government in this regard. The committee reported to the Tamil Nadu government on November 28 last year.
The report was forwarded by the Government of Tamil Nadu to the Central Government.
The Central Government examined this and made appropriate legal amendments. The amendment was approved by President Ramnath Govind on April 13
The amendment was subsequently published in the Gazette. Thus, it came into effect. This should be followed by the District Collectors, Heads of Departments, and the authorities authorized to issue the certificate, ”the order said.
