Hafiz Saeed’s brother-in-law and two associates imprisoned for 16 years in a Terror funding case: FATF’s awe. Pakistan’s court has sentenced the brother-in-law of terrorist leader Hafiz Saeed and two accomplices to 16 years imprisonment in the Terror Funding case.
Pakistan court sentenced three accomplices of terrorist leader Hafiz Saeed to 16 years of imprisonment after being found guilty of providing funds for terrorist activities. Those sentenced are senior leaders of Saeed’s banned outfit Jamaat-ud-Dawa and an old partner of the terrorist leader. There is also a brother-in-law of Saeed. Saeed is responsible for all the terrorist incidents in India including the 2008 Mumbai terror attack.
Hafiz Abdul Rahman Makki and Hafiz Abdussalam, who was sentenced to an anti-terrorism court in Lahore, were granted bail by the Lahore High Court two weeks ago in another case involving funding. Apart from these, the punishment for Zafar Iqbal has been announced. Hafiz Abdussalam and Zafar will face imprisonment for 16 years and six months, along with a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh each.
Apart from this, Hafiz Abdul Rahman Makki, brother-in-law of Hafiz Saeed, has been sentenced to one and a half years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20 thousand. The court of Judge Ejaz Ahmed Buttar pronounced the sentence in the presence of the three convicts.
All three were taken into custody by the police after the sentencing. The court had strict security arrangements at the time of the sentencing announcement. It is believed that action on these terrorists in Pakistan has been taken due to fear of FATF action.
Earlier in February, the same anti-terrorism court in Lahore found Saeed guilty of providing funds for terrorism and sentenced him to 11 years imprisonment. Saeed and Zafar Iqbal were sentenced to five-and-a-half years-five-and-a-half years in two cases. Thus, both the convicts were given 11–11 years of imprisonment. Hafiz Saeed, arrested in July 2019, is currently serving a sentence in Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore.
