Abdul Hameed Chopan, one of the three terrorists killed in an encounter with security forces in Tral’s Nagbren area of South Kashmir, was the oldest terrorist killed in Kashmir in the last two decades.
His son Adil Chopan, also a Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist, was killed by security forces in Gujjar-Basti Tral in November 2017.
The other two terrorists killed along with Abdul Hameed have been identified as Vakil Shah and Ilyas Nazir. All three belonged to Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist organization.
Abdul Hameed Chopan’s age is said to be around 49 years. Apart from this, another terrorist in Kashmir, Mohammad Yusuf Dar alias Kantru who is active in Budgam, is about 47 years old.
Abdul Hameed Chopan had disappeared from his house only a few months after the death of his terrorist son Adil Chopan.
He became a terrorist of Jaish-e-Mohammed. He is now survived by his wife, daughter, and son. A brother of Hameed’s wife was also a terrorist.
Ajay Jamwal, an expert on Kashmir affairs, said that Abdul Hameed Chopan’s case reveals many truths about Kashmir.
It is generally said that such a young man became a terrorist because his father was beaten up by the security forces or his house was searched by the security forces.
But that was not the case with Hameed Chopan. He became a terrorist at the age of 47. With this, you can gauge the jihadi mentality and hold of jihadi elements in Kashmir.
This is also the first case of the father becoming a terrorist after the death of a terrorist son.
