IND vs WI 1st ODI: Shikhar Dhawan captained India to beat West Indies by 3 runs in 1st ODI.
The Indian team defeated the West Indies by 3 runs in a close match in the first match of the three ODI series.
Batting first, Team India set a target of 309 runs against the Caribbean team in the first ODI played in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
In response, the West Indies team managed to make 305 runs at the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 50 overs.
IND vs WI 1st ODI: Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan, who played an innings of 97 runs in this match, was chosen as the man of the match.
Romario Shepherd (39 not out) and Aqeel Hussain (32 not out) from the Caribbean team added 53 runs for the 7th wicket to win the team but the Indian team was successful in saving the match.
Earlier, Shubman Gill made a comeback with 64 runs while skipper Shikhar Dhawan fell short of a century by three runs but both helped India reach 308 for seven in the first ODI against the West Indies on Friday.
Gill, playing his first ODI since December 2020, scored 64 runs off 52 balls while Dhawan scored 97 runs off 99 balls. Shreyas Iyer scored 54 runs in 57 balls.
Dhawan and Gill put on a partnership of 119 runs off 106 balls for the first wicket. Gill was run out in the 18th over but in his innings, he hit many attractive shots.
He hit Aljari Joseph for a six and then a brilliant four. He hit six fours and two sixes in his innings. He was run out on a precise throw by West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran.
This was Gill’s first fifty in ODI cricket. At the same time, Dhawan, who played only in the ODI format, hit 10 fours and three sixes in his innings.
India looked to be going past 350 at one point but the middle order crumbled after Dhawan fell victim to a nervous 90. Dhawan has become a victim of ‘Nervous Ninety’ for the seventh time in his career.
India’s score at one time was 213 runs for one wicket which became 252 runs for five wickets. Sanju Samson once again missed the golden opportunity and got out after scoring 12 runs.
At the same time, Suryakumar Yadav (13) had to bear the brunt of playing a lazy shot.
Deepak Hooda scored 27 runs and Akshar Patel scored 21 runs and added 42 runs for the sixth wicket to take India past 300 runs.
