Indonesia BrahMos missile deal: India and Indonesia Set to Negotiate BrahMos Missile Agreement
India and Indonesia are set to negotiate the BrahMos missile deal, while Jakarta also eyes India’s expertise in building aircraft carriers indigenously.
Indonesia shows interest in buying BrahMos missiles from India, with eyes on aircraft carriers too. While India and Indonesia have agreed to negotiate for the BrahMos supersonic missile deal, senior officials in Jakarta have also shown interest in India’s aircraft carrier construction capabilities. India is one of the few countries in the world that can build aircraft carriers indigenously.
Defense sources said that during the recent meetings with the Indian side, senior officials in Jakarta expressed interest in cooperation on aircraft carrier construction. He said that Indian officials are also working with Jakarta on increasing cooperation in the field of shipbuilding. Sources said that India and Indonesia have agreed to start talks on the BrahMos supersonic missile.
Indonesian team will come to India soon.
It is expected that Indonesian teams will come to India for talks soon. An important condition for the missile deal with Indonesia will be to get approval from Russia. It is worth noting that India has successfully sold BrahMos missiles to the Philippines. The Philippines placed an order worth over US$335 million a few years ago.

The missile has already been delivered to the Philippines and more deliveries are expected soon. Several countries have shown interest in the India-Russia joint venture missile system. These countries include Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and several countries in the Middle East.
