Kerala HC grants relief to former Lakshadweep MP in an attempted murder case and suspends sentence.
In a relief to former Lakshadweep MP Mohammad Faizal, the Kerala High Court on Wednesday suspended the conviction and 10-year jail term awarded to him in an attempt to murder case.
The court also granted relief to three other convicts in the case, including Faizal`s brother. The specified order of the High Court isn’t available.
Deputy Solicitor General of India (DSGI) Manu S, appearing for the Lakshadweep administration, confirmed the order of the High Court.
The order came on a joint petition filed by Faizal and three others against the sentence awarded by the sessions court in Lakshadweep.

Lakshadweep’s Union Territory opposed probation for those convicted, saying it would undermine public confidence in the trial if convicted.
He also said the crimes committed by Faisal and his brother shocked the island community, where crime is rare. Faisal’s brother was a public school teacher.

The Lakshadweep management stated their launch might ship the incorrect message to society. There are 37 defendants in this case. Two of them died and the case against them was closed.
Of the remaining 35 accused, four including the former MP and his brother were convicted and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, while the rest were acquitted.
