Maoists eye Chhattisgarh’s Nagarnar steel plant, the force increases vigilance. The growing Naxal activism in the Nagarnar area has alerted the force before the start of the Nagarnar Steel Plant.
The Naxalite incident was seen in this area after one year. In Gumlwara of the Nagarnar police station area, Maoists came and attacked on Friday and killed a young man.
Earlier, the force had an encounter with Naxals on 27 July 2019 in the Tiriya Machkot forest of the same area, in which seven Naxalites, including three women, were killed. Dantewada, Bijapur, Sukma, Narayanpur are the most Naxalite affected districts of Bastar division.
Some parts of Kanker, Kondagaon districts are sensitive, but the Bastar district is considered to be a region free of Naxalism. The headquarters of Bastar division and Bastar district is Jagdalpur, which is also the largest city of the division.
In such a situation, there is a sense of growing Naxalite movement around Jagdalpur. It is believed that before the start of the Nagarnar Steel Plant, the Maoists are engaged in increasing their interference.
Maoists have been active since 2011 in areas adjacent to Odisha in Darbha and Nagarnar police station areas of Bastar district. In 2011, he vandalized the rest house of the Forest Department in Koleng and Netanar of Darbha and implicated Ambush during his return when the force went there.
In this incident, six policemen including the police station in-charge of Darbha were killed. The force’s hold in Kolleng has now strengthened, but the need to camp in the Tiriya Machkot area is felt. Tritiya is Vanagram.

The commissioning of the Nagarnar Steel Plant will be on 1 July 2021. Naxal violence escalated after the date has set the security forces on alert. Breaking the pipeline has already been part of the Naxal strategy.
They have damaged Essar’s slurry pipeline several times in the Dantewada district.
This is the reason why the need for a renewed strategy is felt after the murder in Gumalwara. Bastar SP Deepak Jha said that a proposal will be made to open a forced camp in this area.
