MDH Owner Dharampal Gulati Died On Thursday. MDH owner Dharampal Gulati studied till 5th, came to India with Rs. 1500, went to Tanga, today has assets worth crores.

Mahashiya Dharmapala Gulati, the owner of Mahasaya Di Hatti (MDH) spice company, died on Thursday at the age of 97. Recently he was infected with Coronavirus.

However, he is being told that he died of a heart attack. Gulati was born on March 27, 1923, in Sialkot (Pakistan). He completed 5th grade and left school in the year 1933.

After the partition of the country in 1947, he came to India. At the time of coming to India, he had only 1500 rupees. He also ran a tanga to feed the family. He then opened a spice shop on Ajmal Khan Road, Karol Bagh, Delhi.

IIFL included in Hurun India Rich 2020 list

Earlier in the year 1937, he started the business with the help of his father and after that, he did the business of soap, cloth, hardware, rice, etc.

He was India’s oldest rich man in the IIFL Hurun India Rich 2020 list. The wealth of Hatti, which was once a total of Rs 1500, has reached Rs 5400 crore today.

Dharampal Gulati was conferred the Padma Bhushan by President Ram Nath Kovind last year for his outstanding contribution to business and industry.

After coming to India, Gulati’s spice business grew slowly and today he has 18 spice factories in the country and Dubai.

The shop used to run in the name of Degi Chilli

Monsieur Dharmapala Gulati used to share the business with his father. But he did not mind and after the India-Pakistan partition, he came to Delhi.

The first factory in Delhi in 1959

Gulati set up the first factory in 1959 in Kirtinagar, Delhi. Dharampal also has an office in London. Today, MDH spices are supplied in more than 100 countries.

Highest Earning CEO

According to Euromonitor, Dharampal Gulati was the highest-grossing CEO of the FMCG sector. Gulati used to donate about 90 percent of his salary. He was also running 20 schools and 1 hospital.
