Need to focus on self-reliance in the defense sector to deal with future security challenges: Rajnath Singh.

Referring to the steps being taken to ensure synergy between the three services, Rajnath said, the ongoing process of integration of the armed forces is aimed at enhancing not only combined capability but also efficiency.

The Defense Minister called upon the Indian Air Force to become an ‘aerospace force’ and be ready to defend the country from emerging threats.

Rajnath Singh was speaking at the PC Lal Memorial Lecture organized by the Air Force in the capital Delhi on Thursday. During this, Rajnath also asked the armed forces to enhance their capabilities.

Also sharing his views on the need to achieve self-reliance in defense, Rajnath Singh said that it is necessary not only to build domestic capability but also to protect the sovereignty of the country.

India cannot depend on imports for its security.

The Defense Minister said that our past experiences have taught us that India cannot depend on imports for its security.

Recent conflicts, particularly the situation in Ukraine, have taught us that not only defense supplies (maybe affected) but also commercial contracts are likely to be affected when it comes to national interests.

Singh’s remarks come in the backdrop of apprehensions among military officials that there may be a delay in the supply of military weapons from Russia to India in the wake of the Ukraine conflict.

The Defense Minister said that if we take a look at some of the recent conflicts, we will find many important examples.

If we take a closer look at Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, and the current Ukrainian conflict, we will find several perspectives from which we can assess future wars.

Referring to the evolving geo-political situation, he said that it is our duty to predict the nature of future wars. Also said that steps are being taken by our opponents towards military use of space.
